Live life in style

June 12, 2017

For all the complaining us New Yorkers do about the winter, summertime in the city sure is beautiful. The tree lined streets of the West Village come into full bloom along with the colorful flowers lining the west side of Battery Park City. Nothing beats summer in the city and I am so excited because it is finally time to break out all my LWDs, silk maxi skirts and tank tops for the sunny side weather.

After the past several weeks, I have noticed some new trends on the streets that have already made their way into my wardrobe. Feather trims, stripes on stripes and denim skirts are just some new looks that have made their way into my closet. Beyond these looks, these are some looks I am seeing over and over and cannot get enough of on the streets of Manhattan.

You will for sure be catching me out and about in the city wearing this play-suit silhouette. I can't believe I was against rompers for so long. Most likely because I was always hard pressed to find anything I really loved, but this season it looks like designers went full force with this easy look. I loved this one from Christina Economou. The playful use of color and perfect fit made it easy to love. I am still on the hunt for something a bit more laid back and a couple of the styles below might just do the trick to cure my romper needs.

I love this new handbag trend so much I own one in black and one in ivory. I always felt totes were uber-chic as opposed to a shoulder bag or satchel, so finding a tote in this summery material feels just right for the warm weather. The best part- almost every retailer has jumped on this bandwagon, so you can find one at a variety of price points. This Eugenia Kim handbag is from Net-a-Porter, but I have shopped the cutest totes on Etsy, Nordstrom’s and Forever 21.

Ever since off-the-shoulder tops were introduced to the mass market, an exposed shoulder has become the most popular accessory of the season. However, being ahead of the trend makes the ultimate fashionista a true trend star, so rocking this one-shoulder look will put you ahead of the curve. This Solace London top from Saks couldn't have fit the bill any better with its large bell sleeve and horizontal stripes. I promise you by the time fall rolls around, every girl will enter the bar with at least one exposed shoulder.

Comfort is key for most of my rules when it comes to dressing, so an embellished slide is all the rage in my wardrobe. Women have been wearing these with long maxis, midi floral dresses and distressed denim. I love the versatility of these shoes and all the different variations I have been seeing. These feather trimmed beauties are by Avec Moderation. The playful adornment and vast variety of options from this emerging brand houses all my favorites, but household names like Sam Edelman, Jeffery Campbell and Stuart Weitzman have taken part in this easy, accessible and updated sandal look as well.
